Auditing is generally a sampling exercise whereas gap analysis is a much more detailed deep dive assessment of compliance to a regulation or standard. Gap analysis is recommended as the first step of preparation for businesses that wish to seek certification to an ISO standard or are in transition from an earlier version of a standard to an updated version. Gap analysis covers each clause / requirement of the standard or regulation in depth to ensure compliance can be evidenced. An action log is created once gaps have been identified.

Gap analysis can be provided as both a basic and comprehensive service according to client needs and requirements. Basic gap analysis will include identification of gaps in compliance, comprehensive service includes identification of gaps, suggested remedial actions to close the gaps and creation of action plan.

As a general guide, gap analysis is usually estimated at one hour per requirement however this can vary depending upon the size and complexity of the business and these variables will be considered as part of the quotation.
